HYALGAN is a leading medication to relieve joint and knee pain caused by osteoarthritis. HYALGAN is a knee injection medication.

HYALGAN (pronounced HI-al-gan) is a sterile, highly purified mixture that is chemically similar to the natural hyaluronan normally found in the knee joint.

Hyaluronan (pronounced hi-al-yur-ON-an) is a natural chemical found in many tissues throughout the body and present in particularly high amounts in joint tissues and in the fluid that fills the joints. It is needed for the joint to work properly.

HYALGAN has been proven in medical studies to provide relief for people suffering from knee pain due to osteoarthritis. The duration of pain relief you experience may vary based on your individual response.

HYALGAN has been in clinical use for 18 years, is available in 42 countries, and more than 18 million injections have been given. Reported cases of serious allergic relations with HYALGAN have been rare.

HYALGAN is injected directly into the knee. A treatment cycle consists of 5 injections given at weekly intervals. This course of treatment can provide pain relief for up to 26 weeks. There are reports in the literature of some patients experiencing benefit beyond 26 weeks.

Another option is a 3-injection treatment cycle. Some patients may experience benefits with 3 injections given at weekly intervals. This has been noted in studies reported in the literature in which patients treated with 3 injections were followed for 60 days.

All Injections must be injected by a practitioner who has medical and specialist training. The practitioner must be medically qualified.

HYALGAN is used to relieve knee pain due to osteoarthritis. It is used for patients who do not get adequate relief from simple painkillers or from exercise and physical therapy. You should not take this product if you have had any previous allergic reaction to HYALGAN or other medications containing hyaluronan. You should not have an injection into the knee if you have an infection or skin disease in the area of the injection
